Wow, updates

Wow, so we leave for Dallas and I forget how to update this here? We do have some updates!

We registered for the Austin Muddy Buddy Race on May 17th, 2009! Our team name is The Newly Weds (follows the blog, right?).

The workouts have been getting better. I dragged Steph to the gym Saturday morning to do our workout. She kicked my ass! I was ready to give up 20 minutes into our initial jog, but she pushed me to finish the entire 35 minute jog. Afterwards, I was ready to throw in the towel, but she also pushed me to finish my 20 minute bike ride. Awesome.

We also bought bikes. Steph got a Scott Contessa 40 (15" frame) and I got a Marin Bobcat (19" frame). Both bikes have good components. For the race, we can only use one bike so come time to really prepare for the race we will practice with Steph's bike. I had the day off (had to get a root canal) and took the opportunity to take my new bike for a ride around the neighborhood. I put 6.5 miles under the tires and rode the Kemah bridge. To say that my bike conditioning needs improvement is an understatement.

We will continue to work on our 6 week program for phase 1. Phase 2 will include more incline/decline practice, more actual trail work and we are going to start practicing some mountain biking at Jack Brooks park. Hopefully we can get some photographs up soon.

Riding Trails...

We brought in the new year quietly at home after a really good sushi dinner. We didn't want to do anything too crazy since we had hopes of hitting the trails on the bikes. As for bikes, we don't own mountain bikes yet. We are planning on buying bikes in February. In the mean time, we borrowed my parents' Cannondales.

The weather was beautiful for a ride, cool and dry! Our pace was very relaxed, more of an afternoon leisurely ride through the back bayous of Galveston Bay. Eventually, we are going to have to start pushing ourselves more, but we are still learning how to safely tackle the trail.

We leave tonight to go visit Dallas... We are hoping to continue on our training program, but we might have to postpone Saturday's workout till Sunday afternoon when we return.
